A survey of college students conducted at three California colleges
reveals that 85% of students participating back
Presidential candidate Dennis J. Kucinich in next year's primary.
This followed the revelation at the September 26, 2007 debate at
Dartmouth College that Congressman Dennis Kucinich and Mike
Gravel support lowering the drinking age. Kucinich went further
and
volunteered his support for lowering the voting age to 16. The
survey was conducted informally at Saddleback College, UCI
and Goldenwest College.
In the Dartmouth debate, Gravel stated, "Anyone who will fight and die
for
this country should be able to drink." Kucinich stated, "Of
course, they should be able to drink at age 18, and they should be able
to vote at age 16."
"The drinking age issue matters," said Sobrina, a 19 year old UCI
student. "It shows that Kucinich believes that we can handle
alcohol responsibly. My boyfriend returned from Iraq, where he
was ordered to kill. How is he old enough to be ordered to kill
but not old enough to drink?"
The results of the survey rounded to the nearest percentage were
Kucinich: 85%, Gravel 7%, Clinton, 4%, Obama, 2%, Edwards, 1%, Biden,
1%, Dodd, 0%.
