John Edwards, Salesman for the Bush Administration
Simon F. (age 15)

Nearly 4000 Americans  and over one million Iraqi civilians who have died in Iraq owe their deaths to one Democrat:  That Democrat is John Edwards.

When Bush was trying to get Congress to go to war with Iraq, he had a tough sell to Democrats.  Most Democrats wanted peace and Democrats had control of the Senate.  Bush had a special weapon in the Democratic Senate.  This weapon was very important to Bush. Without this special weapon, the Senate might have gone against him.  Without this special weapon, a near-bankrupt Halliburton would have collapsed Enron-fashion.  Defense contractors would have been unhappy. Oil corporations would have been unhappy  Bush needed a salesman for the war on Iraq.  John Edwards stepped up to the plate as Bush's special weapon against reason and as the number one Democratic spokesman for the war.

Edwards crafted a resolution authorizing the use of force against Iraq and then proceeded to sell it to Congress.  Edwards was confronted in committee with the evidence that the pretext for the war was a lie.  In support of Bush, he chose not to divulge the truth and instead lied to members of Congress and to the American public about weapons of mass destruction Edwards knew didn't exist.  Bush not only had picked a good spokesman but a good liar to write and sell the Iraqi War Powers Resolution to Congress.  With Edwards fronting the charge for war, Bush could be certain defense contractors, oil corporations and Halliburton would have a profitable war.

Bush had learned much earlier that he could rely on John Edwards to sell his causes.  Edwards had sold USA-PATRIOT to Congress.  Edwards had taken up the call for security over freedom. He had worked hard to sell USA-PATRIOT to all who would listen to him.  Earlier, Edwards had gone against Democrats in his own party in his work to get the Yucca Mountain legislation adopted to please nuclear corproations willing to sacrifice safety and lives for a quick fix for their toxic waste dumping problems.  Edwards had overrode Bill Clinton's veto on a temporary repository at Yucca Mountain .  He went on to lead the charge for a permanent toxic dumping ground at Yucca.  After Bush got into office, the two made an effective team on this issue.  Scientists and independent experts see Yucca as setting the stage for a likely contamination nightmare. Stabbing the pro-choice community in the back, Edwards helped Bush get a number of anti-choice justices confirmed.

John Edwards is the master of "Forget reality and believe what I tell you."  He expects Americans to forget that he is the reason American got into the war in the first palace.  He expects environmentalists to forget that he was the frontman for the potentially worst environmental disaster threatening the United States.  He expects dying Americans turned down by managed care executives to forget that Edwards is a big spokesman for managed care and for the insurance industry.  Edwards wants to raise taxes and give the money to the insurance companies. He wants people losing their homes to predatory lenders to forget that much of Edwards's money comes from predatory lenders.  He wants those opposed to the genocide in Darfur to forget that Edwards has profited from that slaughter through his investments.  He wants workers to forget Edwards's major holdings in Wal*Mart.  He wants the poor to forget that Edwards is part of the America that can buy $1250 haircuts.  He wants the poor to come and see him at the cost of $50,000 and to forget what he has done to break them.

Edwards had a chance to stand up for the voters and give America a Democratic Administration.  In 2004, he refused to fight for the voters of Ohio.  Now we know Kerry/Edwards won Ohio.  Dennis Kucinich stood up for the voters.  Where was John Edwards?

Edwards's work for Bush is not finished.  He is heavily invested in the same kinds of industries (predatory lenders, defense contractors, oil and gas companies, pharmaceuticals) that backed Bush.  The defense contractors want another war and Edwards has stepped up the plate to give it to them.  He has spoken in favor of war with Iran.  In the CNN debate, he expressed a willingness to bomb innocent civilians on a tip about the whereabouts of a fugitive.  Edwards is the primary enemy of not-for-profit heath care among the candidates.

The campaign tactics of Edwards supporters leave Rove in the dust.  Edwards is heavily into suppression of free speech.  He was caught on video trying to undermine the right of the public to see fair and open debates.  He was caught trying to rig the nomination.  His attempts to explain away his calls to suppress information don't wash.

Edwards supporters are not going after Bush.  They are going after Dennis Kucinich.  His supporters are doing everything possible to undermine the peace activists and to encourage them to give up on getting a peace candidate elected.  His supporters regularly send out false information about Kucinich's chances in the false belief that they will lie Edwards's way into the Democratic nomination.  Peace activists, health care activists and civil rights activists will never support Edwards.  The best Edwards can do is to convince some uninformed members of the public and some false progressives to join his campaign. In doing this, Edwards is again doing what Bush wants.  He is taking votes from genuine progressives and working to limit the likelihood of any progressive getting the nomination.  In his quest, Edwards has made himself Bush's best friend and the worst enemy of the progressives.

Youth Rights activists are sending a message to Edwards and his supporters.  We are calling for his withdrawal from the Presidential race and for an apology for his dishonest political methods.  Youth rights activists who will be voting in 2008 will not vote for Edwards under any circumstances.  He may not care about losing the votes of the youth, the poor, the sick, the pacifists and the civil libertarians.  From a logical standpoint, who is left to vote for him?  He is not working to win the nomination.  He is working to undermine the candidates who could make a difference.

John Edwards, now is the time for you to do the honorable thing.  Withdraw.  Stop fronting for Bush. America needs and deserves honest candidates.
