Football is a game of the haves versus the have-nots. Either you
have the ball and want to make sure the other side doesn't get it or
you don't have the ball and would like to have it at least some of the
time, preferably all of the time.
Many Democrats and Republicans are still playing football when it comes
to rights and privileges. If you have the right to vote, you want
to makes sure nobody else gets it. If you have the right to
drink, you want to make sure nobody else gets it. If you have the
right of free speech, you want to make sure nobody else gets it.
Is there a pattern here? Many Democrats and Republicans would
say, "No, I'm not that way. I'm working for equal
rights." This is a nice lie. Equal rights is fine as
long as it is theoretical to some folks.
One way that the older generation can create equal rights is to end
ageism. They could lower the voting age and base it on knowledge
rather than age. They could lower the drinking age to discourage
illegal drinking. They could give free speech rights to everyone,
regardless of age. They could end the strip-searching of children
in schools. How many adults would subject themselves to
strip-searching? Then, they have the ball and don't have to be
strip-searched. Last year, a bill allowing anyone at any school
to strip search students passed the House of Representatives.
This was with the approval of now Majority Leader Nancy Pelosi. Nancy
Pelosi's daughter Christine runs the California Democratic Party's
platform committee and she has shown that one of her main goals is to
hang onto the ball and not let anyone under 18 get it. Christine
Pelosi subjects anyone from our team to extreme public humiliation for
just trying to get the ball. Any young Young San Franciscans are
saying, "Thank God for Cindy Sheehan."
Cynthia McKinney tried to give our generation the ball and they
Diebolded her. Diebolded means that they rigged an
election. In her case, the runoff was rigged in full view of the
voters and neither Nancy Pelosi or Howard Dean did anything to give the
ball the the voters of Georgia's 4th District. Georgia's 4th
District team leader had dared to give the ball to the younger
team. Now, McKinney is running for President. The youth
have an independent leader if the major parties fail to give us a
candidate who wants to give us the ball.
Maxine Waters wants to give our generation the ball. She wins her
district my more than 90%. Pelosi and Dean couldn't take
the ball away from her if they tried. She isn't running for
President. She refused to run for Senator when liberals begged
her to run. She is safe in the House. If she
won't run for President, she should consider Vice President.
Dennis Kucinich wants to give us the ball. He supports lowering
the voting and drinking age. Mike Gravel supports lowering the
drinking age. He isn't saying if he agrees with Dennis on the
voting age. Our generation wants Dennis to lead the team
that's running America because he is the one person who believes in
equality. He's known this time. He's popular with the grass
roots. He is the best candidate for President. Oops.
One problem. His California campaign staff has been firing youth
volunteers as if there is a lineup of supporters eager to take their
turn in getting creamed by the campaign staff. Instead of trying
to keep the volunteer team loyal to Kucinich, his staff is choosing
Bush supporters for team captains. Didn't the Bush supporters get
it wrong in the last two elections? The staff has
forgotten that you can't buy loyalty and is offering internships to
anyone who wants the money. Kucinich can win the Presidency
by firing his staff and giving the ball to his loyal supporters before
its too late.
Obama, Clinton, Edwards, Biden, and Dodd are all among the haves who
don't want our team to get the ball. We can be sure of one
thing. None of these individuals would be our President.
They would be the President of those who oppose our rights.
America's youth would be the biggest losers if any of this group is
elected.
Will the California Democratic Party play fair with the youth in the
2008 platform? The California Democratic Party has already called
for the voting age to be lowered. Will they support free speech
rights, the rights not to be searched and lowering the drinking
age? Next year, there is a platform hearing and they have the
opportunity to put all this into the platform. San Franciscan
youth eagerly working on Sheehan's campaign may get some more campaign
ammunition or they may find that the Democratic Party is fairer this
time.
The Democratic Party can unite the teams behind a joint win or divide
and watch to see if elections go independent in 2008, I'm betting
that the next election will leave the Democratic Party wondering what
happened.
