KUCINICH AND PAUL LANDSLIDE TO VICTORY
Special Election Report by the Creative Youth News Team

3/4/08
Supporters of Dennis Kucinich and Ron Paul are celebrating Kucinich's and Paul's landslide victories over their primary challengers tonight.  Both trounced highly financed challengers by about a 2 to 1 margin.

Heavily financed by corporate donors, Republicans, conservative Democrats and pro-war lobbyists, Joe Cimperman ran ads attacking Kucinich with falsehoods that appeared to have no basis in reality.  Cimperman's hope was that the viewers would not check the facts.  Viewers did and Cimperman was repeatedly called a liar and a fraud by the viewing public and honest reviewers.  Kucinich received no support from Democratic Party insiders, who were upset that he had filed Articles of Impeachment against Dick Cheney and that he had called for immediate withdrawal from Iraq.  There have been stories in the press that Speaker Nancy Pelosi was working to defeat Kucinich in retaliation for his refusal to knuckle under to AIPAC, the lobby of the pro-war Likud Party in Israel. AIPAC has heavily funded Speaker Pelosi.

In this election cycle, Democratic insiders are the ones in danger of losing their seat from an unhappy electorate.  Corporate-backed Pelosi is expected to lose in November to challenger Cindy Sheehan.  It is seen by San Franciscans as a battle between David (Cindy) and Goliath (Pelosi).   Incumbent Albert Wynn recently lost his primary to Donna Edwards.  Americas are letting it be known that they are tired of business as usual in Congress.

Republican Ron Paul has spoken up against his party's President.  The result was that he faced well-funded opposition from a challenger in his own party.  Like Kucinich, Paul found that he and his supporters would have to fight without the assistance of his own party.  Both Joe Cimperman and Chris Pendant (Paul's challenger) were city councilmen who received big corporate bucks and behind the scenes support from party leaders.  Kucinich and Paul have often fought their respective parties in Congress in an attempt to end the war in Iraq and prevent additional wars.  Now, they had to fight the money funneled by their parties, by the big corporations and by the war lobbyists to retain their seats.

Anne, a San Clemente high school student and a supporter of both Kucinich and Paul, commented, "Tonight the people defeated tyranny within the political parties.  Tonight was the people's victory. Tomorrow we must go on to expand this victory."   This seems to sum up the victory and challenges felt by many celebrating the victory of their heroes tonight.
