BEST AND MOST DISAPPOINTING MOVIES OF 2006
Sally’s picks
THE BEST LIST
#1 V
for Vendetta:
This is probably the best movie ever
made. It is an inspiration to those who
feel powerless. It is a great action
movie to those who like action. It is a
great documentary to those who know what the movie is really portraying. With its uplifting and empowering ending, it
is exactly the movie that all of America needs to see.
The acting is excellent and there are no
slow spots. It is worth seeing three or
ten times. If it does not win the Oscar
for Best Picture next year, then no movie made this year will deserve
it.
#2 An
Inconvenient Truth: This movie should earn Al
Gore an Oscar for this well-done documentary about the dangers of
global
climate change.
#3 The
Road to Guantanamo: This focuses on a trio of
British Muslims who were held in Guantanamo for two years until they
were
released without charge. This is a
must-see documentary for every American.
Everyone I know who has seen this movie has come away very moved
and has
recommended that others see it.
#4 The
DaVinci Code:
This is a fun suspense movie that could have any mystery and cover-up
as its
basis. Though it may have taken some
small elements from history, it doesn’t make it as a religious picture. The acting and the action sequences are
well done and it was one of the most entertaining movies of the year.
MOST
DISAPPOINTING LIST
#2 Superman
Returns:
From superhero to deadbeat dad is a bit of a comedown for Superman. The excellent performances by Brandon Routh,
Kevin Spacey, James Marsden, Frank Langella and Sam Huntington could
not
overshadow the fact that Kate Bosworth played a marshmallow instead of
a perky,
pushy, spirited Lois Lane. Clearly,
Bosworth was picked for her looks and not for her acting ability. If there is a sequel, the best that can
be
done is to find a real Lois Lane and send Superman to family counseling.
#1 X-Men
III: The Last Stand: This
movie appears designed to break anyone of their interest in the
X- Men. If that was it’s goal, it
worked. In it, the hit-men who
sabotaged the series kill off some of the favorite X Men characters in
a very
unkind and unlikely manner. The movie
is nothing but a downer. The best
thing that could happen to this movie is a remake with a whole new cast
and an
apology for the hoax. It also serves to
create a sequel fear in movie-goers.
Fans of Superhero movies are now hoping the producers of Spiderman
III don’t do an X-Men on them.
