I wanted to make my first official vote be a vote that would
matter. I wanted to make it a vote I could be proud of for my
whole life. So I voted my Democratic primary ballot for the people's
candidate, Dennis Kucinich. Dennis Kucinich has always been there
for the people, even those under 18. He has been a proponent of
universal, single-payer health care, free college, lowering the voting
age, civil rights, civil liberties, voting rights, equality for all,
freedom for all, peace, abolition of the death penalty, abolition of
nuclear weapons, a living wage, bringing jobs back to America and other
legislation that benefits all. Dennis Kucinich cares about us,
all of us.
I could have voted for one of the corporate candidates, Hillary Clinton
and Barack Obama, but why? Clinton voted for the Patriot Act and
to get us into the war. Barack Obama voted more than five times
to renew the Patriot Act. Obama has voted for war or continued
war over two dozen times. Not only has Obama voted against getting out
of Iraq and into Iran but he has voted to fund the war machine instead
of ending homelessness and instead of ending poverty in America.
Obama pushed legislation that would have put immigrants into slave
labor concentration camps. After Katrina, he voted to
displace New Orleans workers with low cost foreign workers who could be
required to perform in violation of labor laws. That's pretty
bad. Hillary Clinton is the General Electric candidate and Barack
Obama is the General Dynamics candidate. That's not a
metaphor. Follow the money. Both General Dynamics and
General Electric are war profiteers who depend on continued war.
Continued war could mean death for me and you. Is a vote for the
General Electric candidate or the General Dynamics candidate worth your
life or the lives of everyone in your family?
On energy policy, only Kucinich plans it safe. Obama is the coal
king, pushing coal into liquid fuel legislation. Both Clinton and
Obama have voted to fund the putting of nuclear waster where it could
flow into California's food and water supply. They don't care if
Californians die of radiation poisoning. Obama voted for drilling
in the Alaskan Wild Life Refuge, a plan that would exterminate the
poler bear. Did anyone here see
Star Trek IV?
Kucinich
supports
safe energy (which doesn't include coal or nuclear).
Kucinich has proposed legislation aimed at ending global warming. Why
would a first time voter use his vote to sell out the
environment? I am proud that I voted for safe, renewable energy
and an end to global warming by voting for Kucinich.
More than anyone, Kucinich is the candidate who represents my
generation. He tried to give me the vote long ago because he
believes in me and in the youth of America. Kucinich is the only
candidate with a plan for giving us through college for free. Clinton
and Obama went to the colleges of the rich and have no interest in
helping other economic groups get into college. Clinton and Obama
think its OK to send an 18 year old to die but that an 18 year old is
too young to drink. That is cruel and insulting.
Kucinich supports lowering the drinking age. If a person is old
enough to die for his country, he should be old enough to drink.
If a person has been maimed for his country, he should be able to use
his remaining body parts to take that first drink. I have no
interest in drinking. It's the principle that is important.
Clinton and Obama have no respect for the youth of America and they
don't deserve our vote. Kucinich does have that respect and he
deserves all our votes.
When you look at your ballot and you see the box with Kucinich's name
next to it, that's the box to mark. The General Dynamics candidate and
the General Electric candidate can't force you to vote for them.
You have the freedom to send delegates for you to the Democratic
Convention to put your issues on the platform, and you can do this by
voting for Dennis Kucinich. While General Dynamics and General
Electric are fighting it out on the convention floor, those delegates
could make the difference by asking for a reasoned vote for Dennis
Kucinich as the Democratic nominee.
It's up to you. General Electric's Clinton, General Dynamics's
Obama or your candidate, Dennis Kucinich. I voted for the
candidate who always stands up for me and you, Dennis Kucinich.
You can do the same.
