Why Didn't the Newspapers or the Democrats Run With It?
by Terry M.
World leaders applaud Hugo Chavez and boo George W.Bush. Do the
Democrats come out and support the man who is saying what they should
say? Do the Democrats welcome Hugo Chavez as an ally and use the
event to propel liberal candidates into office? The answer is
no. Nancy Pelosi, supposedly the leader of the opposition
to Bush, attacks Chavez. Why?
The problem in America is that while the people agree with Hugo Chavez
the leaders of both major parties agree with George W. Bush.
Millions have marched in the streets against Bush. This is a real
opposition party's dream come true. Unfortunately, America lacks an
opposition party. Most Democratic leaders feel they have more in
common with George W. Bush. than they do with the the members of their
party. The Democratic leaders get their money from the same place
as George W. Bush. Many could have run as Republicans but they
lived in Democratic areas that would not elect Republicans. A
good example of this is Nancy Pelosi. She votes to fund defense
contractors over and over again. She condemns anyone who speaks
out against Bush. She removed Cynthia McKinney's seniority
because Cynthia dared to speak out against Bush. She has never
come out and stood with Dennis Kucinich is his work to end war and stop
the flow of funds to defense contractors. She routinely votes for
nuclear bills that fund Halliburton, Dick Cheney's company.
Initially Harry Reid had seemed conservative. He has become a
much better leader than Nancy Pelosi. At least he doesn't openly
run around condemning the true opposition to Bush.
More and more Americans are registering or re-registering as
independents. At one time the Democrats and Republicans had a
lock on the voters. The Democrats have gotten a lot of the
advantage of the hatred towards Bush. Leaders like Pelosi
hinder the chances of Democrats to retake Congress. The
Republican leaders have made so many mistakes and are so hated that the
Democrats could win every election in America if they had decent
leadership.
The news media is owned lock, stock and barrel by the Republican
Party. They never print real news. They never ask the hard
questions. They just print spin and the minimal news they think
they can get away with printing. See how many of the important news
articles on this site are carried in the Times or in local papers, like
the Orange County Register. If you don't like corporate
journalism, boycott the corporate news.
It is important to defeat Bush this year. A lot of voting
machines will be rigged and a lot of winners will lose. In solid
liberal areas, the people need to stand up and stop the Democrats from
doing business as usual. Sure, Krissy Keefer hasn't put up much
of a campaign. But does a war supporter like Pelosi deserve one
vote in San Francisco? Could Ms. Keefer do any worse than
Pelosi?
The best way for the Democrats to protest the war is to vote
independent or third party when they can. In San Francisco a
Green was almost elected mayor. San Franciscans need to consider
electing a Green to Congress. The al;ternative is to see a
Bush yes-woman either remain the minority leader or become speaker and
lead the Democrats to disaster in 2008.
Green Candidate Todd Cretian stands with the majority of Californians
on all the issues. Dianne Feinstein does not. She stands with
Bush against the people of California on issues of war, free trade and
suppression of civil liberties. She and her husband profit from
the war contracts she votes for. This should be illegal.
Isn't it time that Californians trusted in the people of their state
and voted for the best candidate instead of one of the candidates who
simply backs Bush?
Michael Berg is also a man of courage. How could any voter in
Delaware pass up a chance to vote for this brave, honest, great
man? His Democratic opponent is an unknown and his Republican
opponent supports war. If the Democrat wins, he will be pressured
by Pelosi to support Bush's agenda and punished by Pelosi if he speaks
the truth about Bush. If the Republican wins, it will be more war
as usual. The only shot for peace for Delaware voters is Michael
Berg.
There are other races around America where similar decisions can be
made. Democrats who stand up to Bush should be rewarded.
America needs Kucinich, Waters, Woolsey, Stark and others who have
shown that they can be trusted. It's time to throw out the
cowards. It's time for the Democrats to throw out Republicans who
are running on the Democratic ticket. It's time for the voters to
have the courage to back only the best candidates.
