THE ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER MISSES THE REAL NEWS - AGAIN
by Gary F (age 17)

March 5, 2007

Sunday ,March 4, 2007, the Orange County Register published a story about Hillary's visit to Orange County.  According to those who were there, the Register missed the story.  A slightly longer, uninformative, online version was published on Saturday, March 3, 2007.  http://www.ocregister.com/ocregister/homepage/abox/article_1597677.php

The Register referred to the demonstrators outside as protesters.  They failed to note that the protest was organized by Military Families Speak Out and that most of the protesters had children or siblings in Iraq.  They wanted an opportunity to speak with Hillary and convince her to cut the funding for the war and save the lives of their family members.  Despite pleas that she speak with just a couple of the parents, Hillary did not speak to them.  She waved and smiled a plastic smile as she exited.

The Register interviewed relatives of servicemen in Iraq at length but only published alleged comments by a Democratic  club chairman, who was a friend to the families and who chose not to go inside the fundraiser.  The quote was close but it misquoted the speaker.  She used the term, "families" and not "people" when speaking of those she had chosen to join.  The line may well have been changed as part of the hiding of who the protesters outside were.

The reporters were aware that the Secret Service threatened to arrest the parents of the servicemen if they did not leave a position the Secret Service had forced them into on the other side of the street.   The Secret Service, also, threatened to arrest an attorney quoting the Constitution to the Secret Service.  To the protesters, the actions of the Secret Service appeared to be politically motivated and for the purpose of making the protesters invisible.  Neighbors allowed the families to stand in front of their houses.  The Secret Service could not stop this. This gave the families a closer view than the Secret Service had wanted to give them.

The other real story involves the perceived misuse by Frank Barbaro, Mike Levin and others close to them of Democratic Party funds, lists and materials to back their own choices in primary races.  A great many party officials believe that serious violations of law involving money are taking place at the top of the Democratic Party of Orange County.   Why isn't the Register questioning current and past officers and members about use of money by the people running their party?

A whitewashed story about Hillary isn't news.  It's an excuse not to cover the real news.
