Youth
Advocacy Organizations Join Together to Fight Child Strip Search
Special Report from the Creative Youth News Team
The National Youth Rights
Association, the Urban Justice Center, Asian American Legal Defense and
Education Fund and Advocates for Children of New York have filed a
joint amicus curiae brief in the "Stafford v Redding" case involving a
2003 strip-search of a 13 year old girl who suspected of possessing
Ibuprofen.
While young Americans are avoiding the use of motrin and Advil and
generic
brands
of the over the counter headache remedy, school--employed voyeurs are
seeing the case as a possible acceptance of child molestation.
The case which is now in the hands of the Supreme Court will either
establish a child's right to personal privacy or will encourage young
Americans to skip school until they turn 18.
Here is a link to the amicus curiae brief.
